President Pranab Mukherjee’s assent has cleared the decks for the Andhra Pradesh Re-Organisation Bill to be introduced in Parliament.
Even as there was speculation that the bill was going to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, sources said the government is planning to bring the bill first in the Lok Sabha for which a date is being worked out.
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has sought the opinion of the law ministry on whether the bill is a money bill. If so, it has to be introduced first in the Lok Sabha.
On Monday repeated disruptions over Telangana and some other issues led to the adjournment of both Houses of Parliament for the day without transacting any business.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned once before Speaker Meira Kumar called it a day after noon. As soon as the House met, it had to be adjourned for an hour over Telangana and other issues, namely the Communal Violence Bill and the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. Both supporters and opponents of Telangana rushed raisied slogans.
