With an eye on the dalit votebank in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is welcoming Udit Raj’s Justice Party in the saffron fold. Dr Raj is expected to join the saffron fold on Monday in presence of BJP president Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders.
Dr Raj, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, is also expected to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Another dalit leader RPI’s Ramdas Athawale, whose party had joined the NDA fold last year, will also campaign for the party in Uttar Pradesh.
Upbeat over the response it is getting from across the country and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s growing popularity, the BJP is confident that its tally will significantly increase including in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP, which could manage only 10 Lok Sabha seats during last elections, is hopeful that this time it will gain more than 35 parliamentary seats in UP.
