Beleaguered Lalu in ‘last’ plea to Sonia to save pact

Despair and defiance marked the RJD’s latest approach on Sunday to the vexed alliance talks with the Congress as RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav made a last-ditch appeal to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to agree to his offer to “defeat communal forces led by Narendra Modi”.
With no response coming from the Congress on the RJD’s offer of 11 seats to it and one to the NCP out of Bihar’s total 40 Lok Sabha seats, Mr Yadav stuck to this offer while grudgingly indicating there was some scope for accommodating the Congress’s “genuine demands”.
