The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Mr Narendra Modi, will interact with people in Italy and Nigeria on Sunday, taking his party’s massive public outreach programme beyond the Indian territory.
The party has launched campaign in 35 countries targeting various professional groups to support the BJP in achieving its Mission 272+. Mr Modi will interact with the NRIs as part of the BJP’s ambitious Chai Pe Charcha project, using over 1,000 video-conferencing centres in each of the two countries.
The party’s overseas wing president, Vijay Jolly, revealed that campaigners and volunteers abroad are shortlisted on the basis of their association with the BJP, RSS, ABVP or any other wing of the BJP during their stay in India.
This campaigner then identifies 200 more people to motivate them to convince their allies in India to vote for the BJP
“We are promoting online voting of NRIs. The registered voters are unable to participate in the election process as no facility is currently in place to allow them to cast their votes.
For this, we met Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath in February and demanded right to vote for NRIs by introducing new mechanisms of voting,” Mr Jolly said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party overseas cell has organised several programmes to mobilise NRIs like Run for Unity, NaMo tea party, Chai pe charcha, Modi for PM and Vote for Modi - Vote for India.
Interestingly, in Hong Kong some NRIs have launched a Thai cuisine restaurant, naming it NaMo after BJP prime ministerial candidate.
