Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar sparked a controversy Sunday after he urged party workers to take advantage of multi-phase polling in Maharashtra by voting twice, advising them to “erase the ink on their finger” before voting again, or else it would be problematic.
“Last time (2009) polling in Satara and Mumbai was on the same day... This time polling in Satara is on April 17 and here on April 24,” he said, addressing “mathadi” workers from that district.
The BJP, MNS and AAP condemned the remarks, asking the Election Commission to act against the NCP chief, but Mr Pawar clarified later that he had made the remarks in a “lighter vein”.
