The BJP has further scaled down the number of seats they are contesting in the Seema-Andhra region. They have given up one Lok Sabha and one Assembly seat to alliance partner Telugu Desam. In exchange, they will get two MLC seats.
Seema-Andhra BJP president Mr K. Haribabu and TD MP Mr Sujana Chowdary finalised the quota of seats Sunday evening and conveyed the same to TD president Mr Chandrababu Naidu.
Under the new seat sharing agreement, the BJP will now contest only four Lok Sabha seats instead of five offered earlier. It agreed to forego the Araku (ST) Lok Sabha seat but will contest the Visakhapatnam, Narsapuram, Tiru-pathi (SC) and Rajampet Lok Sabha seats. The Bhartiya Janata Party will contest only 14 Assembly seats from Seema-Andhra, instead of 15 offered by the TD; it will not contest from Gajapathinagaram Assembly constituency. It also agreed to swap four Assembly seats that were offered earlier.
The 14 Assembly seats the BJP will contest are: Itchapuram (instead of Narasannapet), Kodu-muru (for Rajampet), Guntakal (for Anantapur), Kaikalur (for Giddalur), Visakhapatnam North, Paderu (ST), Rajah-mundry, Tadepalligudem, Vijayawada (West), Santanutalapadu, Kadapa, Madanapalle, Narasa-raopet, and Nellore Rural.
