Senior Samajwadi Party leader and UP minister Mohammed Azam Khan has alleged that the Election Commission was working against him at the behest of the Congress.
Mr Khan, who has been banned by the Election Commission from holding rallies and roadshows after two FIRs were filed against him for his alleged hate speech, said that he would move the court against the orders.
Talking to reporters in Rampur on Sunday, Mr Khan said, “The Election Commission wants to gag me on the directives of the Congress. If the EC cannot differentiate between what I said and what Amit Shah said then it would be very unfair. Action against me was pre-determined and I will move court if justice is not done to me.”
Mr Khan further claimed that the Congress hated him because he had finished the party in Uttar Pradesh.
“As convenor of the Babri Action Committee, I strongly told the people how the then Congress government had helped in the demolition of Babri Masjid and that completely uprooted the party from the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, a fresh case was lodged against Mr Khan for his alleged hate speech in Shamli district. Earlier this week, a case was registered against him in Thana Bhawan police station for his remarks at an election rally.
In Shamli, the senior minister had allegedly attacked BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi saying that “his hands are tainted with the blood of innocent people and you should never let any such person rule the country”.
The case was registered on direction of the EC after officials had checked the video footage and found his comments objectionable. He has been booked under various sections of the IPC and Section 125 of the Representation of the People ACT.
