Bystanders attempt to douse the fire as BSP leader Kamruzzama Fauji and a man, named by the police as Durgesh Kumar Singh

Bystanders attempt to douse the fire as BSP leader Kamruzzama Fauji and a man, named by the police as Durgesh Kumar Singh, are engulfed in flames during a live election television debate at a local park in Sultanpur, about 160 km from Lucknow, on Monday night. Durgesh first set himself on fire and then tightly embraced a BSP leader while the debate was being filmed on a programme called “Janmat 2014” on Doordarshan.
The police said it is still not known why he embraced the BSP leader and what his motive was. The youth succumbed to his burn injuries in Lucknow where he was brought for treatment later in the night, while the BSP leader is battling for his life.
