A dog handler attached to the CISF at Nedumbassery airport (CIAL) has filed a strange plea before the high court against the CISF order to transfer him to Imphal airport, pleading that he is emotionally attached to his dog, Charlie. The petitioner Baiju Varghese submitted that he cannot leave Kochi due to his love for the dog and that he has not availed of a single day’s leave since 2007 owing to that. After the transfer order was issued, Baiju applied for voluntary retirement from service but it was rejected by the CISF. Justice P. N. Ravindran on Tuesday considered the plea and asked the CISF to consider his application in two weeks and not to transfer him till a final decision is made. Baiju sought a directive to either retain him at CIAL or allow him to leave the service by opting for VR.
