A 35-year-old NRI has lodged a police complaint against a cosmetics clinic at Hitec City for botching up a hair removal laser treatment. The Madhapur police arrested two doctors, including the owner of the clinic, following the victim’s complaint.
The incident took place in the Reshape Non Surgical Slimming and Cosmetic Clinic when Ms V. Chandana, who lives in Chicago, USA, went for a facial hair removal treatment.
The police produced the owner of the clinic, Dr M. Kiran Kumar, and Dr K. Konda Reddy, who conducted the treatment, before a local court. “We have arrested them after booking a case under IPC Section 337 for causing hurt by an act of endangering life or personal safety of others,” said Madhapur Police Sub Inspector, Mr V. Srinivasa Rao.
Ms Chandana, who was visiting her house in Ayyappa Society in Madhapur, went to the clinic on June 18. She alleged that the doctor was inexperienced and the machine used was an outdated one.
“After the incident, the owner himself confessed to me that the doctor was just three days old in the clinic. They also had not updated parts of the machine before conducting the treatment,” said Ms Chandana, adding that she had done similar treatments in the US successfully in the past.
Immediately after the treatment, when Ms Chandana told the doctors that she was feeling pain on her chin, they said it was normal and that she would be fine in two hours. “It felt as if my face was on fire and my chin started swelling. But they said that it was common to have pain and I would be fine in two hours. But later, when I found burns on my face I went to Apollo hospital where doctors told me how serious the injuries were,” she added.
She also alleged that the police took two days to file an FIR despite approaching them repeatedly.
Police officials said that the accused, Dr Kiran Kumar, had been running the cosmetic clinic for the last three years, and had two other branches, in Dilsukhnagar and Madinaguda.
Ms Chandana said that she came across the website of the clinic and it convinced her to choose the place. “I found that it was having three branches in city. And many customers are seen coming out of this clinic. So I opted to go there,” she said.
Ms Chandana’s husband Bharath Reddy is a software professional in Chicago. She came to city and planned to stay till December this year since her child is studying in a city school.
