Over 540 places raided in Delhi
Union home minister Rajnath Singh cracked the whip on Thursday to check spiralling onion and potato prices in Delhi. As the NDA government began fire-fighting, the minister minced no words in blaming the UPA-2 for “derailing the economy” and causing prices to shoot up. “We will take some time to bring it on track. We are confident,” he added.
Mr Singh met Delhi’s lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung and senior officers Thursday, and outlined several steps to ensure reasonable onion prices in Delhi.
Directing the Delhi government to halt all hoarding, Mr Singh said searches were conducted at 540 places on Thursday, and added that this drive would be intensified. Since Delhi is under President’s Rule, it comes under the administrative control of the home ministry now.
The Centre is working on a contingency plan for two months, starting July 15, to ensure there is no price hike.
