It is understood that the step comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed senior officials with creating a data bank of these numbers so as to make the assessibility of all the officials from senior level to the ground level easier. The National Informatics Centre is likely to host the website with the tentative address selected as.
“The giant web system will be for official use. The webpage will come with built in safeguards so that it is not misused. The idea is to make it easier to get in touch with people at all the levels when it is needed. The Prime Minister has been showing his keen interest in the new scheme,” said a senior official.
In a first ever such initiative, the central government is also coordinating with various state government for the compilation of phone numbers and e mail-ids in each of the respective states.
Sources stated that cooperation of state governments was a must in the proposed portal as it was an effort to create a nation wide data bank of government authorities.
