The sidelining of senior leaders, party strategists feel, will also curb factionalism in the state unit of the BJP. In the past one and a half decade, factionalism has dominated the UP BJP and none of the senior party leaders have agreed to work in coordination which had led to vertical fissures in the organisation. “If the senior leaders are removed from the mainstream organization, the factionalism will automatically get dissolved. Too many leaders often spoil the party, as has been the case in UP,” a leader known to be close to BJP president Amit Shah explained. Mr Shah’s decision to sideline the elders has, expectedly, not gone down well with the veterans and a former UP BJP president, when contacted, said, “The BJP is now transforming into a corporate house. It is unfortunate that veterans like Mr L.K. Advani and Dr M.M. Joshi are sitting out of the government and first timers are calling the shots. In politics, experience matters more than age but then this is the new BJP and it is better we stay out of it.”
