Nidhi Shukla, the sister of slain poetess Madhumita Shukla, now faces a death threat from the man who has been convicted of killing her sister in 2003.
Prakash Chandra Pandey, the shooter convicted for the crime by the Uttarakhand high court, is currently out on bail and has been threatening to eliminate Ms Shukla by calling her on her cell phone.
“I have informed the police and even given them the numbers from which the calls have been made but instead of taking action against the shooter, the police have scaled down my security,” Ms Shukla said on Friday.
She was the main complainant in the sister’s murder and former minister Amar Mani Tripathi, his wife Madhu Mani Tripathi and nephew Rohit Chaturvedi, along with Pandey, are serving life sentences after being convicted by court.
Prakash Chandra Pandey was granted bail by the Supreme Court sometime around October 2012 after he was convicted by the Uttarakhand high court on July 16, 2012.
“We are now preparing to approach the Supreme Court to seek cancellation of his bail,” said Birendra Singh Adhikari, Ms Shukla’s lawyer.
Amar Mani Tripathi and his wife Madhu Mani were shifted from the jail in Uttarakhand to Gorakhpur, their hometown, and since the past two years, both are staying in the BRD Medical college on the pretext of undergoing medical treatment.
While Madhu Mani is being treated in the hospital for depression, Amar Mani is getting treated for problems that range from slip disc to backache, to spondylitis to depression.
Ms Shukla said that she had sent a petition to the Uttarakhand high court about the Tripathis’ presence in UP jail and the court has directed the IG Jails in Uttarakhand to explain within three weeks how the convicts were transferred to UP and why they continue to stay there.
