The Congress on Friday saw a conspiracy in last year’s Naxal ambush on the Congress convoy at Jiram Ghati in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district leading to killing of 27 party leaders and workers. Deposing before a one man-judicial commission set up to probe the tragedy, Congress Legislature Party leader T.S. Singhdeo said eyewitnesses to the incident had reported to have seen smoke billowing at the attack site before the Congress convoy came under attack by Naxals on May 25 last year. “It suggests that somebody was in constant touch with the Naxals to alert them about the movement of the Congress convoy in the route. This clearly indicates that a conspiracy was hatched to target some Congress leaders travelling in the party convoy,” he said.
Mr Singhdeo said the Congress convoy was not provided adequate security though it was to pass through one of the most troubled routes of the state infested with Naxals.
