The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has effected transfers of 48 joint secretary-level officers to bring in new faces across Central ministries in one go.

It is the first and biggest reshuffle of bureaucrats by the NDA government. The list includes four joint secretaries in the ministry of home affairs (MHA), including the officer on special duty (OSD) to former home minister Sushilkumar Shinde.

A 1989 batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer, I.S. Chahal, was holding charge of the Union Territories division in the home ministry after serving as OSD to Mr Shinde.

He has been transferred to the women and child development ministry. Along with Mr Chahal, the joint secretary in the home ministry in charge of border management, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, has been moved to water resources.
