With talk of a Cabinet expansion doing the rounds, there is speculation Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar and former Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha’s son Jayant Sinha, Hazaribagh MP, could be among the new faces in the Narendra Modi government. Speculation is also rife that the expansion may see more young faces in Team Modi.
It is believed in government circles an expansion may take place either before Parliament’s Winter Session, due from November 24, or by the yearend. Sources said there was no clear indication yet from the Prime Minister. It is speculated that Mr Parrikar could be given the defence portfolio, now held by finance minister Arun Jaitley as an additional charge, while Mr Sinha, a management consultant, could be made minister of state for finance.
Besides Mr Jaitley, a number of other senior ministers are also holding multiple portfolios.
