Army Chief Gen. Bikram Singh warned Monday that if the Pakistani Army “breaks rules”, the Indian Army too would have to “break the rules”, while hinting the Indian Army had taken adequate retaliatory action after Indian soldiers were killed near the LoC last year.
Gen. Singh referred to a December 23 Pakistani report that one Pakistani officer and nine soldiers were killed, adding: “this happened with the firing of your soldiers on the ground.”
Referring to the LoC situation, he said “there may be a spillover (of militants) from Afghanistan into J&K (after US-led troops withdraw), and there are “certain inputs alluding to this already”. Therefore, he said, it was “better to wait and watch” before “tampering with” the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in J&K.
In his annual media interaction ahead of Army Day on Wednesday, Gen. Singh said: “If the rules are followed by our neighbours, we follow the rules. If rules are broken, we can’t stick to the rules, even we have got to break the rules.”
