The law intern who has accused a retired Supreme Court judge of sexual harassment on Monday moved the court, seeking an inquiry against the judge. She earlier wrote to Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam in December.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear the matter on January 15.
The former judge, who now heads a major tribunal, is reported to have skipped work at the tribunal on Monday on health grounds. He has denied the charges and has sued newspapers and television channels which had revealed his name in the context of the young lawyer’s allegations.
The former intern, in her petition, has also challenged the Supreme Court’s December 5 full court resolution in which it decided that no complaint against its retired judges would be entertained. She also submitted that a proper forum should be constituted to conduct inquiries in such cases and that her complaint be looked into as done in the case of sexual harassment allegations against retired judge A.K. Ganguly.
The former intern has made the former judge, who was a sitting judge at the time of the alleged incident, the court’s secretary-general and the Union of India parties in the case.
