AAP forces BJP to rework strategy

The growing popularity of Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its preference to contest from urban constituencies in the general polls — where the BJP has a strong support base — has forced the latter to rework its poll strategy. Even the RSS has expressed concerns over the saffron party’s strategies in failing to contain the AAP’s popularity and has asked the BJP leaders to re-work on them.
The concern within the Sangh Parivar is also growing because without a “strong organisational set-up” and “a strong cadre”, the AAP has not only fared exceedingly well in the recent Delhi Assembly polls, but this may well signal a good showing by the new party in the coming parliamentary polls.
The BJP’s poll strategists, including PM candidate Narendra Modi, is expected to hold a meeting after January 26 on this issue.
The Sangh Parivar is also concerned over latest poll surveys on the Lok Sabha polls which have predicted that the AAP is gaining ground in major cities across the nation. Some surveys have even suggested that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has unseated Mr Modi as the best chief minister of the country. While these surveys have predicted that the BJP is ahead in maximum states, saffron poll strategists will put their heads together for a course correction over the AAP and reaching out to maximum number of electorate.
While the BJP has been attacking the AAP over taking Congress support and describing it as “the Congress’ B team”, BJP strategists want to focus on the “unfulfilled” promises made by the AAP in its poll document. There is also a growing feeling within the party that it should remain focused on its prime target, the Congress.
