Its official now. The Aam Aadmi Party, which has finalised its first list of candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections, has pitted Kumar Vishwas against Congress icon, Rahul Gandhi from the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency. The list is likely to be announced in a day or two.

Highly-placed sources said that AAP founder Arvind Kejriwal has put his stamp on the first list of candidates for the coming parliamentary elections. Contrary to the expectations that the party had finalised a list of 100 candidates, a close confidant of Mr Kejriwal said the first list carries the names of only 38 candidates.
A senior AAP leader said the first list of 38 candidates was cleared twice by the party’s screening committee. “The list was finally cleared by the AAP’s Political Affairs Committee and Mr Kejriwal has put his stamp on it.”
Sources said the first list has candidates from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Delhi. “The party has not been able to finalise its candidates for all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. Only a few names have been finalised for Delhi seats.”
Sources said that the party has cleared the name of journalist-turned politician Kumar Vishwas for the Amethi seat. Mr Vishwas had already announced that he was going to take on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi. He also organised a rally in this constituency a week ago.
Sources said the party was yet to decide whether Mr Kejriwal should contest from the New Delhi seat or he should take on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Gujarat. A section of the party leaders think that Mr Kejriwal should contest against either Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli or BJP president Raj Nath Singh in Ghaziabad.
