BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday attacked the Congress-led UPA government and Bihar’s Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) government in three rallies in Bihar and one in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. He also promised a “special package” for Bihar if the BJP comes to power.
Dubbing the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre as a “deaf and dumb, handicapped government, run by remote control,” Mr Modi said in Jamshedpur that the nation was geared up for a “Congress-free India.” Blaming the Congress for the poverty and hopelessness in minerals-rich Jharkhand, he said: “The country wants a sevak (worker) to lead it to new heights.”
“Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had famously said that only 15 paise out of `1 released by the Centre reached the people, but I say that only `12 out of every `100 of Central funds go to the intended beneficiary due to the corrupt system,” said Mr Modi at Jehanabad in Bihar, attacking both the Congress-RJD combine and chief minister Nitish Kumar-led government over corruption. Mr Modi passionately spoke about the plight of farmers and the growth of Maoist insurgency.
